🚨 New Scam Alert: They Don’t Need Your Phone. Just Your Fingerprint.

“Give your thumbprint — just for verification.”

That’s all they said.

No app download.
No OTP.
No PIN.

Just a clipboard, a fake ID card, and a free mosquito net.

But in under two minutes, scammers drained ₹48,000 from an elderly farmer’s Aadhaar-linked bank account — using nothing but his fingerprint.

And it didn’t happen in a city.
It happened in a village.
In broad daylight.
With children watching.

This is not phishing.
Not malware.
Not even a phone call.

This is real-world identity theft — powered by AEPS, Aadhaar, and blind trust.

And it’s spreading across India.

🔥 This Is How the “Mosquito Net” Scam Actually Works

Last week, in rural Uttar Pradesh, a group arrived with:

  • 👔 Fake vests labeled “National Health Mission”
  • 📋 Forms with official-looking headers
  • 🛏️ Free mosquito nets (yes, really)
  • 💡 A loudspeaker announcing: “Come get your benefits!”

They looked real.
They sounded official.
They asked for one thing:

“Just give your thumbprint — for record.”

What they didn’t say:

“We’re linking it to a portable micro-ATM… and draining your bank right now.”

Here’s how it went down:

Step 1: The Trap – “Verification” That Isn’t

Victim places finger on biometric scanner.
Scammers enter victim’s Aadhaar number (often already known).
Device connects to AEPS (Aadhaar Enabled Payment System).

Step 2: Silent Theft via AEPS

Within seconds, they:

  • Check balance
  • Initiate transfer to their account
  • Withdraw money directly

💸 No app.
🔐 No password.
📩 No SMS alert.

The victim sees nothing until the money is gone.

One man lost ₹48,000 in 90 seconds — without ever knowing he’d authorized it.

🤯 Why This Is So Dangerous

Because AEPS was built for financial inclusion — not fraud.

But now, it’s being weaponized.

With just:

  • ✅ Aadhaar Number (publicly available)
  • ✅ Live Fingerprint
  • ✅ Portable Micro-ATM Device (₹8,000 on Amazon)

Hackers can access any linked bank account — no OTP needed.

And victims don’t know until days later — when someone asks, “Did you withdraw money?”

🛑 Who’s at Risk?

❌ Elderly villagers who trust anyone with a badge
❌ Families in low-digital-literacy areas
❌ Anyone who hasn’t disabled AEPS withdrawals
❌ Even urban users — if biometrics are stolen offline

This scam has hit:

  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Jharkhand
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Telangana

And it will spread — fast.

✅ How to Protect Yourself & Your Family

You can’t stop scammers from showing up.
But you can stop them from stealing.

For Individuals:

✔️ Disable AEPS – Call your bank or visit a branch to turn off Aadhaar-based withdrawals
✔️ Never share your fingerprint – Not for “verification,” not for “schemes”
✔️ Verify every field team – Ask for ID, cross-check with local panchayat or bank
✔️ Lock Your Aadhaar Biometrics – Use UIDAI’s mAadhaar app to lock your fingerprint and iris data

🔐 Pro Tip: Unlock only when necessary — like at a verified CSC center or bank kiosk.

For Businesses & NGOs:

✔️ Run digital literacy drives in rural offices
✔️ Train field staff to spot impersonators
✔️ Share this story in WhatsApp groups, community boards, temple notices

At Quisitive, we believe cybersecurity isn’t just firewalls — it’s awareness, education, and empathy.

🌐 Real Stories, Real Losses

In Hazaribagh, a widow lost her entire pension withdrawal of ₹27,000 in one scan.
In Varanasi, a couple gave prints for “health registration” — lost ₹36,000 before dinner.
In Warangal, a teenager filmed the scammers — now helping police identify them.

These aren’t rumors.
They’re warnings.

❗ What You Must Do Right Now

  1. Call your bank today → Say: “I want to disable AEPS/Aadhaar Pay withdrawals.”
  2. Download mAadhaar App → Lock biometrics instantly
  3. Tell your parents, grandparents, relatives → Especially those in villages
  4. Share this article everywhere — Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram

One share could save someone’s life savings.
